Resumo: This presentation will begin to deconstruct the idea of “the American Dream,” specifically in terms of its portrayal in popular culture and media. Drawing from literature and first-hand accounts of North Americans from various cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds, we will compare these experiences to examine if “the American Dream” truly exists, and what exactly it looks like. We will also cover issues of immigration to the US, explaining the history of US immigration and how it has changed to existing laws and public perceptions of immigration. Additionally, Nadine and Hali will share their experiences from working on issues of immigration.
